VietNamNet Bridge – The Association for Protection of Nature and Environment of Vietnam has recognized 54 ironwood trees, each nearly 1,000 years old, in the northern province of Hai Duong as “Vietnam’s heritage trees”.

These trees are at least 800 years old. They are located at Cao Temple in

Chi Linh district. The trees have been numbered and strictly protected by local authorities.

To date, the Association for Protection of Nature and Environment of Vietnam has

recognized 64 ancient trees as “Vietnam’s heritage trees”, including 54 ironwood trees

in Hai Duong, 9 bachang mango trees at Hanoi’s Voi Phuc Temple and a fig tree in Hue city.

The 54 ironwood trees are the remaining trees of the ancient ironwood forest

on Thien Bong Mountain, which were planted nearly 1,000 years ago

around the Cao Temple to worship five brothers who helped

King Le Dai Hanh to fight Song invaders in 981.

These trees were not destroyed by bombs in the wartime.
