VietNamNet Bridge – A section of 10km of the Srepok River in the Central Highlands is now covered by dead fish of various species like carp, catfish, red tail hemibargus, etc.

The area where dead fish appeared runs from Hoa Xuan commune, Buon Ma Thuot city of Dak Lak province to Ea Po commune of Cu Jut district in Dak Nong province.

Dead fish began floating on the river surface on the night of January 27.

Mr. Le Tien Cuong, from Ea Po commune, Cu Jut district, Dak Nong province, said while rowing his boat in the river at 10.30pm of January 27, he looked down and saw a lot of fish gasping and floating to the surface.

Some households also said they detected the dead fish on the river because of the foul smell.

The waste water discharged to the Srepok River from the Tam Thang industrial park.

 

The area which has dead fish is very close to the Tam Thang Industrial Park in Cu Jut district. This industrial park has discharged waste water to the river for a long time.

After detecting the dead fish, local people who live along the river have used small boats to salvage the fish. Many people collected up to 100 - 120kg of fish of all kinds in the morning of January 28.
