The fully vaccinated woman hailing from Tan Binh district was admitted to Gia Dinh People’s Hospital on September 6 after she got virus infection from her relatives in the same family.
Pham Thi Tinh was hospitalised showing flu-like symptoms such as a cough, shortness of breath and a low oxygen saturation index (SpO2). She also suffered from a number of underlying illnesses, including a heart-related disease, high blood pressure, hepatitis and kidney failure.
After 9 days of treatment, her family was informed that the female patient had won the battle against COVID-19. She was allowed to leave the hospital after testing negative for the virus.
“We feel a bit worried when receiving and treating patients aged 65 and above with underlying illnesses because they often turn critical. But Ms Tinh is not the case. We are happy when she has won the battle,” said Duong Minh Tri, a doctor at Gia Dinh People’s Hospital.
HCM City is currently the largest coronavirus hotspot in Vietnam. The southern metropolis has recorded more than 320,000 new coronavirus infections, or half the county’s total, since the resurgence of the virus in late April.
Of the total, nearly 13,000 patients have died of COVID-19 and related underlying illnesses, accounting for four fifths of the country’s death toll.
