VietNamNet Bridge - Twelve people are still trapped in a tunnel at the Da Dang - Da Chomo Hydropower Plant in Lam Dong Province after a section located 500 meters from the hatch suddenly collapsed this morning.

The contractor said that 12 workers, including a woman, were working in the 700m tunnel when the incident occurred.

The vice chair of Lam Dong, Nguyen Van Yen, said the province had mobilized the police, the army and the relevant agencies to rescue victims.

Rescue workers are pumping air and drilling into the tunnel to place for victims.

As of 3 pm today, no one had been rescued.     

The Da Dang – Da Chomo project consists of two interconnected hydroelectric plants. Da Dang Plant is built on the river of Da Dang in Lac Duong district and Da Chomo Plant is on the Da Chomo Stream, a tributary of Da Dang River, in Lam Ha district.

The project has a total capacity of 22 MW, generating average power output of 109.27 million kwh annually, with a total investment of VND475 trillion in the form of BOO (build - ownership - business).
