VietNamNet Bridge - "Boyhood", "The Theory of Everything" and "Cinderella" are the top Hollywood films to be screened in Vietnam this month.

1. Boyhood

Release date: March 6

The film was made over a 12-year period by director Richard Linklater. It is about the boy Mason (Ellar Coltrane), six years old, who lives with his single mother Olivia (Patricia Arquette) and his sister Samantha (Lorelei Linklater, the director's daughter). Occasionally, his father, Mason Sr (Ethan Hawke) comes to take him and his sister out. Time goes by, Mason gradually grows up and becomes an 18 year old about to enter the university…

“Boyhood” has won more than 150 awards, including three Golden Globes, three Baftas and an Oscar for actress Patricia Arquette (Best Supporting Actress). The film depicts a journey marking the image of a spirited, eager youth and the changes in family life over a long period of time.

2. Chappie

Release date: March 6

This is the first sci-fi action film debuting after the Lunar New Year 2015. It is about a robot named Chappie.

In the near future, crime is patrolled by an oppressive mechanized police force. When one police droid, Chappie, is stolen and given new programming, he becomes the first robot with the ability to think and feel for himself.

The film is directed by South African director Neill Blomkamp (District 9 and Elysium). Three famous actors star in the film: Hugh Jackman, Sigourney Weaver and Dev Patel.

3. Jupiter Ascending

Release date: March 13

“Jupiter Ascending” is the latest blockbuster directed by The Wachowskis siblings, who directed The Matrix series. The main character of the film is Jupiter Jones, a Russian-born girl whose life is at a standstill. She has to clean toilets for a living.

Jupiter Jones was born under a night sky, with signs predicting that she was destined for great things. Now grown, Jupiter dreams of the stars but wakes up to the cold reality of a job cleaning other people's houses and an endless run of bad breaks.

Only when Caine Wise, a genetically engineered ex-military hunter, arrives on Earth to track her down does Jupiter begin to glimpse the fate that has been waiting for her all along - her genetic signature marks her as next in line for an extraordinary inheritance that could alter the balance of the cosmos.    

The film stars Channing Tatum, Mila Kunis and Eddie Redmayne, who won the Oscar for Best Actor (for his performance in the film the “Theory of Everything”) in February.

4. Cinderella

Release date: March 13

The story of Cinderella follows the fortunes of young Ella whose merchant father remarries following the tragic death of her mother.

Keen to support her loving father, Ella welcomes her new stepmother Lady Tremaine and her daughters Anastasia and Drizella into the family home. But when Ella's father suddenly and unexpectedly passes away, she finds herself at the mercy of a jealous and cruel new family.

Finally relegated to nothing more than a servant girl covered in ashes, and spitefully renamed Cinderella since she used to work in the cinders, Ella could easily begin to lose hope. Yet, despite the cruelty inflicted upon her, Ella is determined to honor her mother's dying words and to "have courage and be kind."

She will not give in to despair nor despise those who abuse her. And then there is the dashing stranger she meets in the woods. Unaware that he is really a prince, not merely an employee at the palace, Ella finally feels she has met a kindred soul.

The film stars Lily James and Cate Blanchett as Cinderella's stepmother. Cinderella will be in theaters simultaneously with the short animation film Frozen Fever.

5. Focus

Release date: March 20

After the failure of the blockbuster After Earth in 2013, Will Smith has returned to the silver screen with the romantic comedy “Focus”, with actress Margot Robbie.

Nicky Spurgeon is an extremely accomplished con man who takes an amateur con artist, Jess, under his wing. Nicky and Jess become romantically involved, and with Nicky's profession of being a liar and a cheater for a living, he realizes that deception and love are things that don't go together. They split, only to see each other three years later... And things get messy.

6. Insurgent

Release date: March 20

Part two of the “Divergent” series will be one of the early blockbusters this year when it is launched in late March. At the end of the previous episode, the main character Beatrice Prior (Shailene Woodley), also known as Tris, stormed into the lab under subdivision Erudite and rescued Four (Theo James). She also stopped the plan of Jeanine (Kate Winslet), using serum technology to control warriors of the Dauntless subdivision to control the remaining sections.

One choice can transform you, or it can destroy you. But every choice has consequences, and as unrest surges in the factions all around her, Tris Prior must continue trying to save those she loves--and herself--while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love.

7. Out of the Dark

With cooperation between the US, Spain and Colombia, “Out of the Dark” is a horror film set in Colombia.

A young family moves to South America as the wife takes over her father's manufacturing plant in the area. They soon find themselves haunted by the ghosts of young children, leading them to a dark history and sinister behavior on the part of an American company.

8. The Cobbler

Release date: March 20

Max Simkin (Adam Sandler) repairs shoes in the same New York shop that has been in his family for generations. Disenchanted with the grind of daily life, Max stumbles upon a magical heirloom that allows him to step into the lives of his customers and see the world in a new way. Sometimes walking in another man's shoes is the only way one can discover who they really are.

9. Robot Overlords

Release date: March 27

Earth has been conquered by robots from a distant galaxy. Survivors are confined to their houses and must wear electronic implants, risking incineration by robot sentries if they venture outside.

10. Home

Release date: March 27

When Oh, a lovable misfit from another planet, lands on Earth and finds himself on the run from his own people, he forms an unlikely friendship with an adventurous girl named Tip who is on a quest of her own. Through a series of comic adventures with Tip, Oh comes to understand that being different and making mistakes is all part of being human. And while he changes her planet and she changes his world, they discover the true meaning of the word home.

11. The Theory of Everything

Release date: March 27

The film that brought the Oscar in the category "Best Leading Actor" for Eddie Redmayne will close the list of American movies screened in Vietnam in March. The Theory of Everything is one of the most romantic films of 2014 and is based on the memoirs “Travelling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen Hawking” by Jane Hawking, Stephen Hawking's first wife.

The film tells the extraordinary life of the talented physicist who must cope with a chronic disease while he devotes himself to the science of the universe.

12. Women Who Flirt

Most women know that flirting can sometimes be the most effective way to get what they want, especially when it comes to men. However, flirting is an art that takes talent, and isn't so easy to come by for some... Zhang Hui (Zhou Xun) has a crush on her fellow classmate, Xiao Gong (Huang Xiaoming). 13. C'est Si Bon
