VietNamNet Bridge – Doctors of Hanoi’s Vietnam-Germany Hospital on January 15 successfully conducted four organ transplantation surgeries at the same time, using organs donated by a man of nearly 30.
Dr. Nguyen Tien Quyet, the hospital’s director, said that nearly 150 doctors joined the operations to transplant two kidneys, heart and liver for four men. Of them, two who received the kidneys come from Hanoi and over 40 years old both. A man from the northern province of Thai Binh, 39, was transplanted with the heart. The remaining man, 37, from the northern province of Vinh Phuc, received the liver.

The most difficult case is liver transplantation, which needed nearly 12 hours. All patients were in serious situations. Without organ transplantation, they might die very early.

By the afternoon of January 16, all patients regained consciousness and were recovering well.

In mid-April 2011, this hospital also carried out four organ transplant operations at the same time.

Vietnamese doctors are good at organ transplantation techniques but like many countries in the world, lack of organs for transplantation is a big problem.

In the world, 90 percent of organs are donated by donators whose brains are dead but in Vietnam, most of kidney and liver transplantation cases use organs donated by the living. Meanwhile, the Vietnam Germany Hospital alone has nearly 1,000 whose brains are dead but their families do not agree to donate the dead’s organs.
