With the theme "Preserving, promoting and spreading the traditional cultural identities of ethnic minorities", the first Cultural Festival of ethnic groups with a population of less than 10,000 people will take place on November 3-5 in Lai Chau city, Lai Chau province. This is the first time the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism coordinated with the People's Committee of Lai Chau to organize such an event.
Director of the Department of Ethnic Culture under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Thi Hai Nhung said that the festival aims to honor and promote the cultural identity of ethnic minorities, practicing the policy of solidarity among ethnic groups, affirming the motto that all ethnic groups are equal. In addition, the culture of ethnic minorities with a population of less than 10,000 people is at risk of being lost and needs to be preserved and promoted.
Representatives of 14 ethnicgroups with a population of less than 10,000 people, including O Du, Brau, Ro Mam, Pu Peo, Si La, Cong, Bo Y, Co Lao, Mang, Lo Lo, Chut, Lu, Pa Then and Ngai will participate in the festival. These ethnic groups are mainly located in 13 provinces of Lai Chau, Cao Bang, Thai Nguyen, Dien Bien, Ha Giang, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Tuyen Quang, Son La, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh and Kon Tum.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has also coordinated with relevant ministries, agencies and the People's Committees of related provinces and cities to periodically organize the Cultural, Sports and Tourism Festivals in the Northwest and Northeast, Central region, and Central Highlands, besides the festivals of each ethnic group such as Mong, Thai, Dao, Khmer, Hoa, Muong, and the festivals on border lines such as Vietnam - Laos, Vietnam – Cambodia in order to preserve and promote the cultural identity of the 54 ethnic communities in Vietnam.
The first Cultural Festival of ethnic groups with a population of less than 10,000 people will be associated with the Tourism and Culture Week of Lai Chau province 2023. During the festival, many activities will be held such as offering flowers at the Monument of Uncle Ho with Lai Chau’s people, various cultural, sports and tourism activities, performances of excerpts of festivals and traditional cultural activities of ethnic groups with a population of less than 10,000 people.
