VietNamNet Bridge – From now to 2015, apartments will account for 80 percent of housing projects in Hanoi and HCM City. Around 20 percent of the apartments will be for lease.



According to the government-approved National Strategy on Housing Development to 2020, Vietnam will build new apartments totaling around 100 million square meters of floor per year. Of which, at least 20 percent of area of urban housing projects will be for low income earners.

The housing development program in cities and for poor countryside people will be continued to build at least 10 million square meters of houses for university students and low-income earners.

Public houses will be built to serve state employees. Workers of industrial zones will be leased with houses invested by the state or private organizations.

According to the Ministry of Construction, the housing structure in cities is inappropriate. The ratio of apartments is only 1.23 percent. Hanoi has the highest rate of apartments, with 16 percent while it is only 6 percent for HCM City. Around 14 percent of urban people live in hired houses.

Vietnam aims to have per capita housing area of 25sq/m/person by 2020 and 30sq.m by 2030.
