VietNamNet Bridge – Last night, October 27, Lieutenant General Pham Tuan - the first Vietnamese going into space, announced the name of the second Vietnamese who will fly into space: Vu Thanh Long, 20, a student from HCM City.

Launched in April 2013, the campaign to seek the second Vietnamese to fly into space attracted more than 20,000 Vietnamese contestants from all over the world.

Eleven candidates were selected for the national round and three best were named for the interview round. They are Dinh Huy, 26, a graduate from the Macquarie University, Nguyen Hoai Nam, 22, a pilot trainee of Vietnam Airlines and Thanh Long, 20, a Vietnamese student in Australia.

With excellent English, excellent health and skills, Vu Thanh Long, who is studying abroad, is the winner. Long and 22 people from other countries in the world will fly into space and will become the second Vietnamese doing this.

Moreover, Long, 20 years old, may become the youngest person to go into space in the world. The current record belongs to astronaut Gherman Titov, who flew into space at the age of 26.

Long will be attending a training camp of Axe Apollo in America to prepare for the journey into space, scheduled in January 2014.
