VietNamNet Bridge – The 8th National Junior Sports Festival opened in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho on August 6, gathering more than 65,000 athletes from 63 cities and provinces across the country.

After lighting the festival torch, Minister of Education and Training Pham Vu Luan praised the sporting spirit of Vietnamese people, especially the youth and encouraged participants to compete confidently and honestly.
In a week ending on August 12 they will be competing in 19 different events, namely aerobics, swimming, table tennis, volleyball, football, basketball, badminton, chess, shuttle cock, track and field, judo, karatedo, tug of war, petanque, taekwondo, vovinam, wrestling and crossbow shooting.
The event aims to discover young talent for national and international sports competitions.
