Last year, Vietnam received 7.78 million foreign tourists who spent around US$8.39 billion in the country, according to a survey conducted by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT).

Foreign visitors to Vietnam spent most of their money on accommodation and meals. Shopping and entertainment accounted for only a small amount. For instance, 33.14% of their spending went to accommodation, 23.74% to food, 18.34% to shopping, 4.08% to guide and entrance fees, 3.56% to entertainment and 3.79% to others.

The number of foreign tourists revisiting Vietnam made up 32.98%, of which 18.1% for the second time and 5.77% for the third time.

The survey was conducted by the VNAT in October and November 2014 with 13,980 questionnaires in six different languages sent to 1,000 travel agents and 63 provincial Departments of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
