VietNamNet Bridge – HCM City customs officers seized a container of elephant tusks at ICD Phuoc Long Port in HCM City. The container contains 158 tusks, weighing nearly 2.5 tons, worth around VND100 billion ($5 million).

On July 30, HCM City customs agency opened a container owned by Thai Minh Import-Export Co., Ltd. because this company did not come to the port to fulfill formalities to receive its goods though it was informed for three times.

Customs officers discovered 28 wood boxes containing 158 tusks, worth around $5 million.

According to Thai Minh company’s customs declaration dated June 29, this was a salted cowhide container, from Mozambique, worth $57,375.

The customs agency seized the goods and the case is being investigated.
