VietNamNet Bridge – A speeding coach crashed into houses in Nha Trang early Thursday morning. Four were critically wounded while 34 others suffered light bruises and scratches.

Victims were treated at the Khanh Hoa General Hospital on Thursday after a coach hit houses in the south central province of Khanh Hoa.

Late on the day, 28 victims were deemed in stable condition and were discharged from the Khanh Hoa General Hospital. The hospital also said it secured 160 blood units, enough to meet the demands of treating the seriously injured.

The passengers of the coach had been negotiating with the coach service operator on compensation and arrangements to continue their journeys. By 2pm Thursday, many have continued on another coach.

The sleeper bus, driven by Dao Ngoc Thang, born in 1969 and originally from the northern province of Thai Binh, was travelling on National Road 1 when the rear tire burst, sending the coach crashing into the houses on the side of the road.

At the moment of the accident, the bus was travelling at 84km/h, higher than the 80km/h limit, the Directorate for Roads of Viet Nam said.

Local police are still investigating the scene.

Vice Chairman of Khanh Hoa Province People’s Committee Dao Cong Thien visited the victims at the hospital on Thursday and gave each victim VND2 million ($86.3) as support.

Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh, also chair of the national committee for traffic safety, has sent his sympathies to the victims.

He asked for quick investigation into the case, including checking whether the driver was driving under the influence, the tyres were old or whether the accident was caused by deliberate acts such as intentional placement of sharp objects (including nails) on the roads to burst the tyres of vehicles.
