VietNamNet Bridge – Twenty-eight Vietnamese workers are fleeing the spiraling violence in Benghazi and are expected to arrive at the Egyptian Salloum border gate late on the afternoon of August 4 before flying home.

The Vietnam Embassy in Egypt on August 3 reported that these workers lost their jobs after the chaos in Libya forced their Turkish employers to suspend operations.

More than half of them were working through the labour export companies of VINACONEX Trading and Manpower JSC (VINACONEXMEX) and SIMCO Song Da JSC.

Ambassador to Egypt Dao Thanh Chung said the embassy has made detailed plans to receive these workers and provide free meals and other accommodations during their stay in Egypt.

On the early morning of August 4, a special working group of Embassy personnel arrived in Saloum, around 650km from Cairo, to assist in the evacuation of the workers.

The Hyundai Amco Company from the Republic of Korea (RoK) is also in the process of evacuating all of its 682 workers from Libya to Vietnam via Egypt.

These workers were granted special exemption by the Egyptian government to stay in Egypt for 72 hours, instead of 12 hours as usual, due to the extenuating circumstances of the unrest and chaos in Libya.

Egypt agreed to allow Vietnamese workers without identity papers, including passports, to enter the country before flying home on condition that the Vietnamese competent agencies directly receive their workers at border gates.
