At the Reconciliation Concert 2011, the New Philharmonic Orchestra performed Dvorak’s Slavonic Dance, Mozart’s Concerto No. 4 for violin and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5 before thousands of audiences, who are scholars and students from MIT, Harvard, Boston universities and Boston people of all ages.
Some Vietnamese students in Boston attended the concert. Trinh Tue, who has successfully defended his doctoral thesis at the MIT, said that he was surprised to know about a big concert in the US, which was organized at the initiative of a Vietnamese – former chief editor of VietNamNet Newspaper.
Notably, some members of the New Philharmonic Orchestra are not only musical instrumentalists, but university professors from the Massachusetts University and the MIT.
On April 22-23, 2010, VietNamNet organized the Reconciliation Concert 2010, with the presence of late American conductor Charles Ansbacher, from the Boston Landmarks Orchestra and the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra.
The Day for Reconciliation (September 9) is the initiative by Nguyen Anh Tuan, former editor-in-chief of VietNamNet, as the day of reconciliation and love around the world, with various activities, including assistance to disadvantaged children of less than ten years old, reconciliation music performance by Vietnamese students in France (August 2010), Reconciliation Concerts, etc.
The Day for Reconciliation initiative is supported by politicians, scholars and leaders of corporations at home and abroad. Michael Dukakis, former Governor of Massachusetts, a candidate for the US Presidency election, fully sympathizes with the idea and warmly support to organize the annual Reconciliation Concert in Boston.
Speaking at the concert, journalist Nguyen Anh Tuan raised the idea to build Boston into the city of Reconciliation and Love, the city of Spirit of the World in the 21st. He also called for establishing a prestigious music award for the whole world, named Charles Ansbacher, who tried to use music to ease tension and conflicts in the world.
From next year, the concert will be organized at the outdoor Hatch Shell theatre every August.
