Deputy Minister of MoPI, Nguyen The Phuong, has said at the high-level seminar “Viet Nam Green Growth Strategy: Pathways towards Implementing the Paris Agreement”, jointly held today by the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MoPI) and the Delegation of the European Union to Viet Nam.

“To date, 5 government ministries, and almost 30 provinces and cities in Viet Nam have developed and implemented their green growth action plan, many provinces/cities and businesses have identified this as an important task which is being implemented in different aspects: Resource mobilisation, institutional and policy improvement, capacity strengthening, and technology”, he added.

A draft of INDC plan is being finalised to submit to the government for consideration and approval, serving to actualise Viet Nam’s movement towards the goal of sustainable development by 2030.

Ambassador and Head of the EU Delegation to Viet Nam, H.E. Bruno Angelet, remarks that with the EU’s demonstrable experience and expertise in balancing economic growth and reduction of greenhouse emissions, the EU can lend a helping hand to Viet Nam in achieving the same objective.

Speaking at the seminar, Deputy Director of the Department of Hydrometeorology and Climate Change, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Pham Van Tan, said that Viet Nam needs to achieve greenhouse gas goals through legally binding terms, international standards and appraisals, instead of reduction through voluntary contribution.

The seminar discussed Viet Nam’s National Green Growth Strategy, shared EU’s expertise in decision-making and implementation of green growth strategies at a strategic level, and outlined strategic planning in Viet Nam with the EU’s help and the role of the private sector.
