A rare giant ocean sunfish got snared in the net of Vietnamese fishermen off the coast of central Thanh Hoa province.

The fish has a length of 1.8 metres, a width of 1.8 metres and a weight of nearly 300 kilogrammes.

The ocean sunfish is the heaviest known bony fish in the world and is listed in the Vietnam Red Data Book as an endangered species.

An adult ocean sunfish can reach weights of up to 1,000kg.

The species, which is native to tropical and temperate waters around the world, resembles a fish head with a tail, with its main body being flattened laterally.
