VietNamNet Bridge – In the afternoon of May 15, nearly 300 hundreds of police officers were mobilized to extinguish the fire at the Pou Yuen Company in Binh Tan District, Ho Chi Minh City.
At 5pm, the fire came from the second floor of a 900 m2 building of Pou Yuen, a Taiwanese-invested company. This floor was being repaired so there were no workers there.
Some company staff tried to stamp out the fire with CO2 cylinders but they could not. A few minutes later, black smoke covered the entire building, making thousands of factory workers panic. They quickly evacuated from the building.
Nearly 300 firefighting policemen were mobilized to control the fire. They used ladder trucks to spray water from above.
Not until 7pm, was the fire completely extinguished. The police could only save the first, the fourth and the fifth floors. The entire second and third floors of the building were burned down.
Several fires occurred at Pou Yuen Company before.
