* Philippines rescues nine Vietnamese fishermen

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has saved nine Vietnamese fishermen on fishing vessel QNg 95712 TS from the central province of Quang Ngai which was stuck near the Balabac Strait on February 17.

On February 18, the Vietnamese embassy in the Philippines said that the nine fishermen on board are now safe.

The Consular Department of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs is coordinating with Quang Ngai province, the Vietnamese embassy in the Philippines and relevant agencies to finalize necessary procedures to bring the fishermen home soon.

Upon being informed that some Vietnamese fishing vessels were moving in the East Sea to avoid Vietnamese territorial waters affected by a tropical depression, the Consular Department sent diplomatic notes to the Philippine, Malaysian and Chinese embassies in Hanoi and urged Vietnamese embassies in these countries to inform relevant agencies immediately and help Vietnamese fishing vessels seek shelter from the storm or rescue them if they broke down or were in distress.
