VietNamNet Bridge - Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc who is also chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee, has criticized 37 provinces, including big cities like Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City, for the high increase of dead victims of traffic accidents in the last two months.
According to the National Traffic Safety Committee, traffic accidents rose in the first two months of the year, especially in February.
The country had more than 5,600 traffic accidents during this time, which killed 1,970 people and injured nearly 5,800 others. Compared to the same period in 2012, the number of accidents reduced by 740, but the number of dead people rose by 298 (17%). In February alone, the number of people who died in traffic accidents increased by 323 (44%) while the number of injured people also rose by 12%.
Of the 37 provinces that have the increased number of deaths due to traffic accidents, 23 have the number of deaths up by more than 30% and 4 four provinces with the number of deaths increased by over 100% (Ba Ria - Vung Tau; Lai Chau; Yen Bai; An Giang).
Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee--Nguyen Xuan Phuc, has severely criticized the provinces with high numbers of deaths in traffic accidents in the past two months. He asked these provinces and cities to take drastic measures to strictly handle violation of traffic safety and order.
