Thirty eight projects were granted 2011 Vietnam Science and Technology Innovation Awards by the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations on May 16 at a ceremony in Hanoi.



Party Central Committee members, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan and the Minister of Science and Technology, Nguyen Quan, attended the event.

Four first prizes, nine second prizes, 13 third prizes and 12 consolation prizes were awarded to projects which focused on priority scientific and technological fields such as mechanical and automation engineering, technology materials, IT, electronics, telecommunications, biology, environmental protection and conservation of natural resources, energy saving and renewable energy. In addition, six individuals who led or co-led the first prize winning projects also received the Prime Minister’s certificates of merit.

The awards aim to honour and encourage scientific and technological research and innovation and promote the application of scientific achievements and modern technologies in production as well as in products used in daily life.

Addressing the ceremony, Deputy PM Nguyen Thien Nhan congratulated and praised the great achievements made by Vietnamese scientists and technical innovators in 2011. The Deputy PM also expressed his belief that scientists, engineers and science and technology enthusiasts will continue contributing to the nation’s development.

The Ministry of Science and Technology also used this occasion to officially launch the 2012 Vietnam Science and Technology Innovation Awards.
