From mid-December 2013 to mid-December 2014, more than 25,000 traffic accidents occurred in Vietnam, killing nearly 9,000 people, according to the Ministry of Transport. The number of cases fell by more than 4,000 year a year.

Ten provinces saw deaths fall by over 20% including Quang Ninh, Ha Giang, Bac Kan, Ninh Thuan, Cao Bang, Nam Dinh, Ca Mau, Bac Giang, Da Nang, and Lang Son.

Nine provinces with an increase in deaths (5-10%) are Quang Tri, Kon Tum, Vinh Long, Kien Giang, and Ben Tre.

Five provinces with the highest numbers of accidents and greatest damage are Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Dong Nai, Binh Duong, and Ba Ria - Vung Tau. In particular, Ho Chi Minh City ranked first, with more than 4,300 cases and 725 deaths.

The southern province of Ca Mau had the lowest number of accidents in 2014, 14 cases and 18 deaths.
