The 48 hour film project announced its winners at an award ceremony held last Friday evening at the Opera House in HCMC.


Yeti team won Best Film, together with VND40 million (US$2000) in cash,
for their movie Turtle Soup.


This year, the competition attracted 75 teams, who had to write, shoot, edit, and complete a short film within 2 days.

The jury was Philip Noyce, the Australian director of The Quiet American and Salt, and Vietnamese directors Vinh Son and Nguyen Quang Dung.

“After screening all entries, each of us had his own favorite. This is good news, proving that the qualities of most submissions are equal this year,” Nguyen Quang Dung said at the ceremony.

Turtle Soup (Canh Ba Ba) by Yeti team won Best Film, together with VND40 million (US$2000) in cash, a screening at the 48 Hour Film Project’s global festival Filmapalooza, and a chance to be shown at next year’s Cannes Festival.

This film also won Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Trailer and Best Graphics.

The runner up is Path of the Marble (Duong Bi) by Mowo team.

Professional Amateur, a group of students from British International School, won the Young Film Maker's Award for their short movie Get the message?

Singer Dang Khoa, who played the leading role in Wings of Time (Dong Thoi Gian) by 2448 team, won Best Actor.

Screenings of all entries will start on January 8 at Hung Vuong Megastar Cinema, 125 Hung Vuong, District 5, HCMC.

Started in the US in 2001 by Mark Ruppert and Liz Langston, the 48 Hour Film Project has become a worldwide contest in which teams of filmmakers are assigned a genre, a character, a prop, and a line of dialogue to create a short film in 48 hours.
