VietNamNet Bridge – Being born prematurely, Le Sy Cuong – the boy baby weighing less than 500g was saved by doctors of the Children’s Hospital of Thanh Hoa Province. This is the second 500g baby that survived in Vietnam.

In recent days, many people have come to the Thanh Hoa Children’sHospital to visit the baby weighing only 500g.

Dr. Le Xuan Trung, Head of the emergency department said on May 11, the baby was transferred from the Thanh Hoa General Hospital to the Thanh Hoa Children’s Hospital.

This is a rare case but the baby has been rescued by physicians. The baby is being monitored in the incubator.

The mother - Hoang Thi Hang, 25, from Hoang Long commune, Hoang Hoa district, Thanh Hoa – has been with her baby 24/7 although she is very weak.

"I'm worried, so I’ve been always on my baby’s side. Doctors have told me that my son has overcome danger but I’m still afraid because such a case like my baby is very rare," Hang said.

Le Sy Quynh, the father, said his wife occasionally went to hospital for examination. The baby was only 22 weeks old so Hang still worked normally. The couple works for a leather shoe company in Thanh Hoa.

That day, like other days, Hang returned home after work. When she got home, she suddenly felt tired and severe abdominal pain. She immediately went to the local health station to see nurses. She was then transferred to the Thanh Hoa General Hospital. At about 11pm on the same day, the baby was born.

“I was able to see him after birth. He was very small and had no hair. But now his hair is black," Hang recalled.

“When I was pregnant the first time, I did not experience morning sickness. My first son was 3.2kg at birth and he was very healthy. But when I carried this child, I had morning sickness until delivering birth. I vomited whenever I ate. I could eat almost nothing but little fruit,” she said.

Dr. Trung said, this is a rare premature birth, with high risk of mortality. Doctors used the longline technique, a special device for premature babies priced from VND1.5-1.8 million. The device is changed every week. The baby will stay at the hospital for at least three months.
