A report on 5G subscription development in Southeast Asia by Ciscofurther said Vietnam and Singapore are expected to lead the way in SoutheastAsia by launching 5G technology in the region in 2020-2021.

A representative of Cisco Vietnam said that 5G service in Vietnam is likely to growfaster than in other regional countries in the coming time even though themarket penetration rate in the country was slower in the period of beginning.

Vietnamese telecommunication firms could raise theirrevenue by up to 300 million USD each year starting in 2025, thanks to the 5Gservice, it noted.

However, Vietnamese mobile service providers will have to invest1.5-2.5 billion USD in infrastructure development in the 2020-2025 period forlaunching and operating the 5G service, the firm said.

They also need to build a list of services and prices for 5G networks toencourage users to switch to high-speednetworks, it added./.VNA

The Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group (Viettel) announced on September 21 that it has started providing 5G service and put into operation the infrastructure of Internet of Things (IoT) in Ho Chi Minh City.  

Vietnam marches towards 5G, but waveband not ready for 4G

The first 5G BTS (base transceiver station) has been set up by mobile network operators. However, it is unclear when 5G licenses will be granted since the waveband for 4G is not ready.
