VietNamNet Bridge – The Ministry of Public Security cooperated with the police of Bac Ninh and Quang Ninh provinces to seize two batches of rosewood estimated at tens of billions VND (millions of USD) which were on the way to China.

The two batches of smuggled rosewood totaling over 60 tons in weight were seized on the night of November 9 by the Environment Police Agency and the police forces of Bac Ninh and Quang Ninh.

The police checked a truck on Highway 1A and found a huge amount of wood hidden in sacks.

The wood on this truck is unprocessed rosewood, weighing nearly 30 tons, worth tens of billions.

The driver confessed that he was transporting the wood to China.

Also on the night of November 9, Quang Ninh authorities also found and seized another truck transporting about 30 tons of rosewood in the town of Mao Khe, Quang Ninh. This truck was also on the way to China.

Rosewood is a rare type of wood, which is banned from trading.

Accordingly, dark Brazilian rosewood (Dalbergia nigra) is classified in Annex I on animals and wild plants threatened with extinction, being prohibited from export, import and re-export for commercial purposes.
