VietNamNet Bridge – The National Junior Chess Championships opened in Ho Chi Minh City on July 12, attracting 600 players from 31 cities and provinces across the country.

Players will compete in the standard, rapid and blitz events, in which they have 90 minutes, 25 minutes and 3 minutes, respectively, to complete each game.

Competitors are divided into seven age groups ranging from U7 to 20.

“This year’s event has seen a record high number of players, and we expect to discover new talented young chess players during the course of the tournament,” said Nguyen Phuoc Trung, Deputy Secretary General of the Vietnam Chess Federation.

Best players will be selected and trained for the national junior teams to compete in regional and international tournaments, said Trung.

The championships will last through July 24.
