VietNamNet Bridge - Nearly 600 Vietnamese people have asked for amendments to their personal identity papers after transgender surgery.

According to an official from the Ministry of Health’s Department of Mother-Children Health, the group wants to change their sex status and their names on official papers.

The official said that the current law does not allow changes to the personal profile of transgender people, but only to those who suffer from defects in chromosomes or genitals.

However, the Health Ministry has proposed allowing the change of personal profile of transgender people in the draft amendments to the Civil Code.
