VietNamNet Bridge – The Green Summer Volunteer Campaign 2013 on Sunday kicked off at September 23 Park in District 1 to promote the voluntary spirit among students and young people in the city, attracting more than 60,000 students from universities and colleges in HCMC.

Volunteers join the community spirit at the launch of the Green Summer Volunteer Campaign 2013 in HCMC.

The campaign is scheduled to run for one month. Volunteers will show their community spirit in 16 cities and provinces in the Central Highlands, South and the Mekong Delta. They will join in various activities to call on public awareness on environmental protection, coping with climate change, maintaining traffic safety and order, building a civilized urban lifestyle and volunteering to help disadvantaged children.

In HCMC, 4,000 volunteers will plant 12,000 trees in outlying districts and join environmental protection activities in District 5, 7, 12, Tan Binh and Binh Tan districts.

The farthest location for the program is remote areas in Laos. Volunteers will visit residents in Attapeu and Champasak provinces to give them medicine, free health checks, dig wells and build roads and schools.
