An earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale jolted many parts of northern and eastern India, including the Indian capital New Delhi, on Sunday evening, although no damage has been reported.

The tremor occurred at around 18:10 local time (12:40 GMT), with the epicenter in Sikkim at a depth of 20.70 km, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The big Indian cities of Kolkata, Lucknow, Patna and Guwahati also felt the tremor, according to Indo-Asian News Service.

Meanwhile, a tremor was felt for nearly a minute Sunday night in most parts of Bangladesh including its capital Dhaka.

Many people in Dhaka took to the streets after the earthquake.

Fire service men said they had not received any report of damage or casualty yet.
