VietNamNet Bridge – On September 16, the body of a whale of over 12 meters long and over 7 ton weigh drifted to the shore of Lien Huong town, Tuy Phong district of Binh Thuan province.

For the first time people in the town of Lien Huong see a 7-ton whale.

The fisherman discovered the whale is Nguyen Van Tho, a resident of Street 13, Lien Huong town, the owner of a fishing boat.

"On September 14, while catching fish offshore I discovered a big fish floating on the water like a submarine but I did not know what species it was. The fish body had many scratches. A sudden wave hit the side of the boat. The fish caught in the anchor rope frame, making me panic because the fish was too big, exceeding my imagination. I cut the anchor cord, started the engine and ran to the shore," said Tho.

Knowing that the giant fish is the whale, Tho hastily mobilized more vessels to take the whale into the shore for bury and worship.

The whale was brought ashore at the twilight of September 16.

"As the fish is too big, around 6-7 tons, local authorities had to use a shovel to take him to the site where he was buried," said Huynh Em, Vice Chairman of Lien Huong town said.

The same evening, the town’s whale tomb management board conducted traditional ceremonies, then buried the fish away from residential areas in order to ensure environmental hygiene.

According to local fishermen, this is the third time a whale drifted to this town.
