VietNamNet Bridge – Fishermen in Hoang Hoa district of the central province of Thanh Hoa netted a dolphin on April 21. The rare animal, which is named in the Vietnam Red Book, was released back to the sea after that.



Fishermen from Hoang Hoa district sold the 70-kg dolphin to a trader named Nguyen Van Thoi on the same day.

The trader sent the fish to a salt water tank of the Thanh Hoa Center for Seafood Research in Hoang Hoa district.

The local department of aquatic resource protection was informed of the case. The agency sent its staff to the Thanh Hoa Center for Seafood Research for inspection.

Defining that the fish is a dolphin, which is listed in the Vietnam Red Book, the agency’s experts resuscitated the fish and released it back to the sea.

The fish was carried by a boat and set free around 3km offshore.




The incident occurred on the same day of the inauguration ceremony of the Hai Tien Ocean Ecological Tourism Zone in Hoang Hoa district. Thousands of people flocked to the beach to see the dolphin.

Local residents say that the appearance of dolphin on the inauguration day is a good sign.
