An earthquake measuring 7.2 on the Richter scale jolted offshore southern Mexican state of Chiapas, Mexico, on Tuesday, a local radio station said.
Sources from Chiapas Civil Protection Direction, cited by the local radio station, said the earthquake happened at 5:43 p.m. local time (2243 GMT).
According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter, with a depth of 44.00 km, was initially determined to be at 14. 4203 degrees north latitude and 92.9694 degrees west longitude.
Early in the noon, a 5.6-magnitude earthquake took place in Mexico, in the southwestern coasts of Michoacan and Guerrero states, according to Mexico's National Seismological Service (SSN) .
Local media reports said the second earthquake felt in the Chiapas'towns of Huiztla and Tezizipan.
Local Civil Protection Direction hasn't yet released a report of possible victims or material damages.
