On October 18, customs officials at Noi Bai International Airport (Hanoi Customs Department) apprehended a foreign national attempting to smuggle approximately 7kg of suspected gold concealed in 7 metal bars while entering Vietnam.

Around 9:30am, at the arrival terminal of the International Passenger Terminal T2 at Noi Bai International Airport, the Import Baggage Procedure Team (Noi Bai International Airport Customs Sub-Department) noticed suspicious behavior from a foreign passenger arriving on a flight from Hong Kong (China). Upon further inspection, the passenger was found to be hiding metal bars on his person.

The Noi Bai International Airport Customs Sub-Department, in cooperation with the Hanoi Police Department's Division for the Investigation of Crimes on Corruption, Economy, Smuggling, and Environment (Division 6), along with the Noi Bai International Airport Border Security Police, conducted a thorough inspection of the passenger’s baggage and belongings.

During the inspection, the man removed 7 metal bars, suspected to be gold, hidden on his person.

The individual admitted that he was hired to transport the gold from Hong Kong to Vietnam. Upon successfully entering the country, he was to be met by someone who would collect the gold, with the carrier being paid a fee of 100 Hong Kong dollars per bar.

The Noi Bai International Airport Customs Sub-Department has handed over the individual, along with the evidence and related documents, to the Hanoi Police Department's Division for the Investigation of Crimes on Corruption, Economy, Smuggling, and Environment for further investigation and legal processing.
