According to the committee, the number of fatalities was dropped nearly a half compared to the same holidays last year.

The crash between a coach and a truck, travelling in opposite direction, occurred in northern Phu Tho Province's Doan Hung District on Sunday midnight, murdering one and injuring 10 others, was believed to be the most serious accident during this year's National Day holidays.

Vice chairman of the committee Nguyen Hoang Hiep talked to online-newspaper VnExpress that beer and wine were found to be related to 40 per cent of total patients taken to hospitals of Viet Nam – Germany in Ha Noi and Cho Ray in HCM City due to traffic accidents during the holidays.

Statistics of Cho Ray Hospital show that the hospital receives more than 250 patients each day, on September 1 and 2, and almost of the patients were victims of traffic accidents.

In the meantime, the HCM City's Transport Department said the number of patients hospitalised due to traffic accidents accounting for 40 per cent of total patients during the holidays, which began on Saturday, August 31, and ended on Monday, September 2.
