Flea markets are one of the unique cultural traits of ethnic minority groups in Tay Bac, the mountainous region in the northwest of Vietnam.

Among many such convergence venues for ethnic minority people, a bustling flea market along the Da River in Phu Yen District in the northwestern province of Son La is a worthwhile destination for visitors.

The busy sight of a flea market along the Da River in Phu Yen District, Son La Province

The market in Pa Village is only open on three fixed days, namely the 5th, the 15th and the 25th day of each month.

It however captures special attention of local people from all walks of life and a large number of tourists thanks to its colorful and bustling sight.

From the early morning, small boats carrying goods gather at a wharf on the Da River while trading activity takes place quite quickly as customers come, choose, bargain, make payment and take away their goods.

The market only lasts from three to four hours and then returns the peaceful atmosphere to the wharf.
