VietNamNet Bridge – Scale modeling is a growing pastime in HCMC. And coffee shops displaying scale models are no longer new. Café DMT at 6B Nguyen Thien Thuat Street in District 3, which has been operational for two months, offers many new things to scale modeling enthusiasts.

The three-storey café has a simple décor but two glass and wooden shelves along the walls on the ground floor make it special. The two shelves display many scale models which attract the attention of professional scale modeling builders and beginners. All products have price tags, making it easy for customers to inspect.

The second floor of the coffee shop displays scale models of Trumpeter and Hobby Boss, the two global brands of scale models. Customers can bring these products to the ground floor for inspection before they decide to buy them.

Customers can open scale model boxes to see every detail before buying, which is different from other stores which normally disallow guests to open boxes before they pay.

The DMT’s third floor is also a special space. Wooden tables are arranged to create private spaces. Each table is a place for builders to create their own scale models. The café will provide tools like air compressor and specialized tables for scale modeling, and technical support for beginners.

Dao Minh Tuan, a graduate from HCMC University of Technology, is the owner of Café DMT. He said the coffee shop organizes offline events to instruct everyone to build scale models every Sunday morning. It also holds fairs selling scale models of its customers on the last Sunday of month.

Before opening this coffee shop, he had two years’ experience in assembling motorcycle models.
