Korean names commonly used in the commune include Chu Ru Lê Ram Bô, Sơ Ao Kim Su Li, Lơ Mu Ly Su In, Liêng Jrang Ha Ka Ka, Liêng Jrang Ju Ly Am, Kră Jăn Kelly, and Lơ Mu Uy Li Yam.

Mr. Dơng Jun Ha Tang, 33, a local official, showed several books of birth registration with Korean and foreign names of famous actors and singers, such as Korean actors Kim Su Lee, Lee Soo In, the Brazilian football star Kaka and action star Rambo.

"Naming children after Korean movie stars, singers, world-famous football stars or artists is on the rise in Da Sar commune. This young couples name them after their idols,” Ha Tang said.

He said there are hundreds of children named after world celebrities, mainly Korean.

K Ra Jan My Lan, 20, from Village 1, Da Sar commune, took a birth certificate to the commune office to register the birth of her daughter. She wanted to name the child Kra Jan Kelly.

My Lan said she loves singing and she admired the American singer named Kelly Clarkson. When she had a child, she decided to name her daughter Kelly.

Ma Huong, a young woman from Village 6, Da Sar commune said: "My husband loves foreign action films and he admires the actor Rambo, a famous character in US action movies.”

“When I delivered my son, my husband decided to name him after Rambo. I did not agree but he was determined to name my son Chu Ru Le Ram Bo".

Da Sar commune is inhabited by ethnic minorities, mainly K'Ho (K'Ho - CIL, K'Ho - Lach), Chu Ru ... As their living standards are improved, they have access to the modern life and modern tool such as TV sets, cell phones… Watching TV has become their main source of entertainment. From here, they admire characters in Korean and foreign movies or world celebrities.

In addition to naming their children after foreign names, many people in Da Sar Commune also name their children after Vietnamese celebrities, such as Kra Jan Thai Nhat Truong, Kra Jan Luu Gia Bao (Vietnamese singer and actor).

Although these odd names are protested by the elderly residents and local officials, this “trend” continues  in Dar Sar.
