In just one day, the 16 year old resident of Thanh Hoa Province stole five motorcycles and bicycles in succession, but one of them stands out for daring.
According to the information from Tho Lap Commune, Tho Xuan District, Thin was a drug addict always looking for ways to get money to feed his habit. His modus operandi was simple. He would walk around in the village, the commune and some neighbouring areas, taking advantage of villagers’ carelessness and unsuspecting nature to steal bicycles, motorbikes and household equipment and any other thing he could get his hands - and feet – on.
On November 18, he saw the bicycle of a farmer working in the fields and stole it immediately. As he escaped, he saw a motorbike on the road without its owner, and without any hesitation, discarded the bicycle in a banana grove. As he was cutting the motorbike’s lock, to take it away, local police caught him red handed and handed him over to their counterparts in Tho Lap Commune.
As the local policemen recorded the theft and its details, Thin said he wanted to go to the toilet, and then managed to take off on a motorbike parked in front of the commune’s People’s Committee office.
Knowing that the police had discovered his latest theft, he discarded that motorbike and stole another bicycle instead and rode to the neighbouring village of Xuan Tin. He must have felt it was his lucky day, because he soon saw yet another motorbike on the roadside and swapped it for the bicycle immediately. Local police managed to find him, but this time, they took him to the district police station instead.
They must have sensed that this young man is destined for bigger things.
