A talk about the history and a definition of New Media Arts, as well as some ‘classic’ artworks of this genre will be held in Hanoi on September 15.

Since the 90s, the world has witnessed the rapid development of information and communications technology. Along with that, artists from around the world have also begun to experiment with new technologies and new tools such as the Internet, Robot, 3D, virtual reality… that the technology era has offered. 

After initially developed outside the art world, art works and artists of this genre have been welcomed by the public, museums and academies as the mixed child of art and technology. Academics and critics temporarily referred to this artistic genre as New Media Arts.

The talk will give the audience some information about the history and a temporary definition of New Media Arts, as well as some ‘classic’ artworks of this genre. This talk is a part of the project Untitled.exe – the first online art exhibition in Vietnam.

The talk will have the presence of artist Giang Hoang Nguyen (a.k.a Cau Tu Tan).

Born in 1989, currently living and working in Hanoi, Giang Nguyen is a multimedia artist who has practiced experiments with video, photography and illustration. 

He is also the founder and artist of “The black hole” – an art project that gained wide controversy on the Internet between 2014 – 2015. 

In the past 2 years, he has developed a particular interest in arts in the Internet environment, culture and mass media, as well as Vietnam’s identity in the digital age and globalization.

Giang has had exhibitions at Six Space, Hanoi Goethe Institute and Nha san Collective. In 2016, he is pursuing a master’s degree in Internet Art at Accademia di Belle Arti Brera di Milano (Italy), under the Italian government’s scholarship program.

In 2015, Six Space initiates Crossing Borders with the ideas of bringing arts closer to the general public as well as challenging artists and creative professionals to experiment in different disciplines work together. Crossing Borders is a multimedia art project working with young artists in productions of three art projects/ exhibitions at Six Space in 2016 and 2017. The project was funded and supported by CDEF.

The talk will be free of charge and in Vietnamese language.
