Mother and baby, a girl weighing around 3kg, are reportedly fine.

At 3:30am when the train was in the Kim Lien-Hai Van Nam area, Ta Thi Dan, who was in charge of cabin No 6, informed the captain, Nguyen Van Duc, that a passenger was showing signs of early labour.

But after he told her the train was too far from Hue, the staff got warm water, towels and medical alcohol and Dan acted as the main midwife.

The pregnant woman, Nguyen Thi Anh, thought to be around 30 years old, was travelling with her sister to their parents’ house in Thanh Chuong District, Nghe An Province, for delivery.

The staff phoned Hue railway station to get an emergency medical team to wait for the arrival of the train.

Anh and her baby were then whisked away to the city hospital.

SE6 is operated by the Ha Noi Railway Transport Joint Stock Company.
