According to a decision signed by Deputy Minister of Construction Le Anh Tuan, the B727-200 aircraft currently parked at Noi Bai International Airport will be handed over to the Vietnam Aviation Academy - a public non-business unit under the Ministry of Construction - for management and use in accordance with regulations on public asset management.
The aircraft will be used as a model and teaching aid for aviation training under the government’s Decree No. 186/2025 on the management and use of public assets.
The Boeing 727-200 aircraft left abandoned for nearly 20 years at Noi Bai International Airport.
The aircraft previously belonged to Cambodia’s Royal Khmer Airlines (RKA) and carried the registration number XU-RKJ.
It operated on the Hanoi - Siem Reap - Hanoi route starting on March 5, 2007.
However, due to technical problems, the aircraft was forced to stop operations and remained parked at Noi Bai International Airport from May 1, 2007.
Afterward, as no organization came forward to reclaim it, the plane remained abandoned at the airport for many years.
In 2017, the Ministry of Finance issued a decision establishing state ownership over the aircraft in accordance with legal regulations.
Under the new decision of the Ministry of Construction, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam is responsible for organizing the transfer of the Boeing 727-200 to the Vietnam Aviation Academy for management and use in compliance with regulations.
