Nearly 500 students will compete at the 15th Hanoi Open Mathematics Competition (HOMC) from March 26 to 30, with foreign contestants joining for the first time.

Participants will be divided into two groups. The first group comprises of 87 international students from 10 countries and territories including Poland, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, China, and Hungary.

The students of this group will participate in individual and team competition, along with a cultural presentation in which they will introduce cultural characteristics of their countries.

Meanwhile, 411 contestants of Group B come from 22 localities across Vietnam and will attend the individual competition only.

The official language of the competition is English and exam questions in the individual competition of the two groups will be the same.

The HOMC, held annually in March, was first launched in 2004 for students of the eighth and tenth grade. It encourages students to improve their studying as well as serves as a playing ground for them and their peers from other countries.

With the participation of 87 foreign contestants, this year’s edition is expected to increase mutual understanding and international cooperation, as well as promote images of cultural identity and people of Vietnam and Hanoi in particular.-VNA
