Canadian singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer Mac Demarco will stage a one-night concert at Cargo Bar in HCMC’s District 4 at 8 p.m. on January 20.
His performance in Vietnam is being organized by Loud Minority, an organization that brings quality international acts to Vietnam, develops local talent, and encourages young Vietnamese people to produce their own music.
The song Ode to Viceroy from his second album Salad Days in early 2014 received positive feedback from critics and was voted as “Best New Music” by U.S. music magazine Pitchfork and was nominated at the Canadian Polaris Music Prize 2014.
The album was ranked ninth on Rolling Stone’s Top 50 Albums of 2014, 11th on The Guardian’s Best Albums of 2014 and 12th on Pitchfork 50 Best Albums of 2014.
Aside from DeMarco’s recorded works, his live shows have gained notoriety for often involving nudity, jokes and a lot of improvisation. He was recently arrested on stage in California after climbing the venue’s ceiling beams with the help of the crowd.
He is one of the artists who will perform at Coachella Music and Arts Festival in 2015 in California, one of the world’s largest music festivals.
Demarco’s concert in Vietnam will also feature performances of local potential bands. Advance tickets are priced at VND350,000 and VND250,000 for students with ID. Tickets sold on the day cost VND450,000 and at VND350,000 for students.
