Big cities in Vietnam are ready to celebrate the Vietnamese Women’s Day on October 20.
Hanoi is set for a slew of music shows aimed at the fair-sex audiences.

A mini concert titled “Mot thoang xua” (A glimpse of the past) presenting young guitarist Hoang Trung Tin and violist Nguyen To My will take place at 8pm tonight on October 18 at Zeus Café at 22 Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street in Hanoi.

The show “Ru vang cuoi thu” (Autumn Lullaby) to be held at 8pm on October 20 at Hanoi Opera House at 1 Trang Tien will transport the audiences to a place full of songs honoring Vietnamese women, like “Tre Viet Nam” (Vietnamese Bamboo), “Me” (Mother), “Dat nuoc loi ru” (The country’s lullaby), and “Chi toi” (My sister).

It will see the performance of local top singers including People’s Artist Thu Hien, Hong Nhung, Quang Linh, Uyen Linh, Phuong Ha and Tuan Phuong.

Another romantic gift for women is the “Giot Suong Thu” (Autumn dew) show with love songs by renowned composers Trinh Cong Son and Pham Duy. Famous singers like Thanh Lam, My Tam, Khanh Linh, Quang Dung, Tan Minh and Huy Tuan will perform at the 2-night show on October 19 and 20 at Hanoi Cultural Friendship Palace at 91 Tran Hung Dao.

The Goethe Institute in Hanoi will also organize a show called “Lac trong rung dong” (Lost in passion of the heart) to celebrate the day.

The show will combine the modern with the traditional by performing music on Vietnamese traditional music instrument dan tranh composed by Nguyen Thanh Thuy, a dan tranh instructor at the Vietnam National Academy of Music.

Graduating with a Master of Arts from the U.S.-based Folklore Institute in 2002, Thuy is now active in both traditional and experimental fields of music and a performer in many countries.

“Lost in Vibration,” begun at 8pm at the Institute at 56 – 58 Nguyen Thai Hoc, will be a performance of six dan tranh artists including Nguyen Thanh Thuy, Nguyen Thuy Dung, Nguyen Quynh Ngoc, Pham Thu Thuy, Nguyen Khanh Chung and Trinh Thi Hanh.

In Ho Chi Minh City, the municipal Women's Cultural House will organize a three-day event to celebrate the day and its 30th birthday anniversary from today, October 18.

There will be a ceremony to mark its birthday at 2pm today at the city’s Opera House at 7 Cong Truong Lam Son.

Tomorrow, a cooking contest and a talk on the topic “How to treat your partner in marriage?” will take place at the House.

The movie “Trang noi day gieng” (Moon at the Bottom of the Well) will also be screened at the House at 2pm and a hair fashion show named “Toc may bong benh” (Hair floating in the air) will take place at 7pm the same day.

81 photos featuring the portraits of Vietnamese Heroic Mothers across the country will be displayed during two last days of the event.

Another exhibition to honor Vietnamese women is also being held at the Southern Women’s Museum at 202 Vo Thi Sau Street in District 3.

Titled “Southern women as reflected in culinary culture”, the exhibition showcases traditional kitchen utensils, traditional foods as well as photos and documentaries about the process of cooking of southern women.

The exhibition will last until December 10.

Tuoi Tre
