Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung and Japanese Ambassador to Viet Nam Kunio Umeda took part in the event.
In order to turn Hoa Binh into a well-known cherry blossom park, an AEON representative said 800 trees would be planted by 250 volunteers from the group, partner companies and universities across the city. Nearly 100 volunteers from Japan’s Mizuho Bank branch in the capital would plant another 200 trees.
Speaking at the event, Chung expressed his thanks to the Japanese Ambassador, AEON executives and volunteers for their support in contributing to building Hoa Binh Park into a symbol of the Viet Nam – Japan friendship.
He said the first cherry blossom trees in the park, which were planted in spring 2017, would bloom in spring 2019, earlier than expected, boding well for AEON Group and Hanoi.
Chung firmly believed that ties between Vietnam and Japan, and between Hanoi and AEON Group, would further thrive.
Executive Director of the AEON Environment Foundation Naoki Hayashi said AEON attached importance to tree planting and protection. Since 2010, the group had planted 75,000 trees in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue, 15,000 in Ba Vi National Park in 2014, and 1,700 in Hoa Binh Park.
The cherry blossom tree planting ceremony in Hoa Binh Park was launched in 2017.
