The above information was given by Yoshida during his meeting with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on May 20 on the occasion of PM Chinh’s attendance in G-7 Summit in Hiroshima, Japan.
According to Yoshida, AEON currently has six commercial centers in Vietnam, mainly in big cities such as Hanoi, Haiphong and HCMC. A commercial center in Hue will be opened next year.
The US$1.2-billion investment made by AEON into Vietnam is the corporation’s largest outbound investment to date.
The prime minister advised AEON to consider choosing Vietnam as the world’s business country and open more commercial centers, shopping outlets and entertainment centers in the tourist cities of Vietnam.
The PM also requested AEON to foster importing Vietnamese products and putting them into its global supply chain, especially leather and shoes, fishery products, food and foodstuffs.
In return, Yoshida said the corporation plans to open an additional 20 commercial centers in Vietnam in the upcoming time, focusing on supermarkets and entertainment centers, and will strengthen importing Vietnamese products to distribute them at over 20,000 commercial centers in Japan.
