HÀ NỘI — Trịnh Quang Mạnh and Phan Thị Uyên Nhi won the first gold medal for Việt Nam at the seventh Aerobic Gymnastics Asian Championships in Pattaya, Thailand.

The duo received 19,550 points to top the podium of the Mixed Pair event of the youth category. South Korea and Japan came second and third, respectively.

Vietnamese athletes also took two silvers by Phan Thế Gia Nam, Nguyễn Phương Anh and Nguyễn Tất Việt in the Trios event and Phạm Linh Chi, Đỗ Phương Anh, Đặng Minh Ngọc, Lương Phương Nhi, Đăng Quốc Bảo, Pha Thế Gia Nam, Nguyễn Phương Anh and Nguyễn Tất Việt in the Groups, both in the youth category.

Việt Nam sent a team of 28 competitors, competing in 12 out 16 events for juniors and seniors in Thailand.

The athletes won three gold medals at the 31st SEA Games in May and a world championship group title in Portugal in June.

In the latest version in 2017, Việt Nam secured two golds, three silvers and one bronze to be the top team in the medal tally. 

The Asian Championships attracts gymnasts from 12 countries and concludes on September 5. VNS
