In an article published on its official website, AFC highly praised Vietnam U17’s performances throughout the tournament.
The continental football body was particularly impressed by the dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over the United Arab Emirates, which helped coach Cristiano Roland’s side secure a quarterfinal berth as group winners and earn Vietnam’s first-ever ticket to the FIFA U17 World Cup.
“This victory saw Vietnam U17 finish top of Group C with six points, one ahead of South Korea, while both teams also secured qualification for the FIFA U17 World Cup 2026 in Qatar,” AFC wrote.

In the quarterfinals, Vietnam U17 will face Australia U17.
The Vietnamese side previously defeated Australia 2-1 in the semifinals of the 2026 Southeast Asian U17 Championship in April.
“Vietnam U17 has shown strong determination to continue its historic journey after a courageous campaign at the AFC U17 Asian Cup 2026. After such tremendous efforts, the Southeast Asian representative certainly does not want to let a semifinal place slip away,” AFC stated.
Regarding Australia U17, AFC noted that the team could become a much tougher opponent if its players perform with greater confidence.
Although Australia possesses advantages in physicality and fitness, AFC stressed that the team faces a major challenge against Vietnam U17.

Vietnam U17 has already returned to training following the victory over the UAE.
The squad remains fully focused on recovery and tactical preparation ahead of the quarterfinal encounter with Australia.
“Our coaches reminded us to temporarily put aside the win against the UAE and concentrate fully on training sessions to prepare in the best possible way for the upcoming match against Australia,” midfielder Minh Thuy said.
