According to the province’s statistics, by the end of December Nghe An has recorded over 100 outbreaks, spreading to 17 districts and cities.

In an attempt to stamp out the disease, the provincial veterinary agency provided 5,000 litres of Han-Iodine 10% disinfection chemicals and equipment to seven provinces and cities hardest hit by the ASF. It also moved to mobilise all resources for epidemic prevention and control, along with the formation of control stations.

The provincial police and relevant agencies also strengthened inspection efforts to strictly handle cases of intentionally transporting and consuming animals illegally without quarantine.

Local farmers were also called to closely monitor their pigs and inform local authorities of any cases as soon as possible.

Earlier, ASF was also recorded in the Mekong Delta provinces of Tra Vinh and Tien Giang, as well as northern provinces of Lang Son, Cao Bang, and Son La.

Vietnam detected the first outbreak of ASF in February 2019, and the disease spread to all 63 provinces and cities across the country within just seven months resulting in the culling of six million pigs, equivalent to 20% of the total pig herd.
